![]() Do it even a tiny bit wrong on timing and it might sound right but the decode will say NOT!. The KX3 and K3 for code practice is great. Soooooo I figure if I am using a keyer my spacing would sound better do to forced timing. With a straight key use at 10 or so WPM is still not great sounding. I want to get beyond dangerous and came across a deal on a P-1 paddle made by the now (SK) K8RA, beautiful and smooth all brass hand made paddle. Thanks to the Koch and other computer programs I am now dangerous depending on the day from 9-15 wpm. The past couple of years I got the bug to re-learn code. I was 16 going on 17 and no car and no support at home. Next time the FCC guy would be around would be 3 months after my novice expired and what really happened it was closer to a year. Came down with something and missed my chance for the 13 wpm general exam. ![]() Got it up to a whopping 13 wpm, however living in Phoenix we did not have a FCC examiner (Way before VE). Learned morse code in 1963 to get my novice ticket. Thank you one and all for any suggestion. Right now I need some sound advice on doing it correctly and getting my brain to stop with the DUH moments so much. If I someday make it to 20 WPM I will be more then happy. I just want to send smoothly and with a good fist. ![]() So I really don't care if the rest of my life I am only doing 10-15 wpm. With 60% hearing loss and constant ringing in my right ear and 40% hearing loss in the left ear missing dots and dahses is easy at high speed. I am listening to just words mostly at up to 20 wpm and at that speed copying about 60-75%, in my head, drop down to 15 WPM it goes to 90%, 10 WPM 99-100% depending on how tired I am. I have a cheap Big Lots special Android tablet with a morse practice program called CW. So people of the paddle/cw crowd how about some suggestions. lots of DUH moments thinking about which paddle first). Then I should be able to read and send without thinking about paddle movements. How many hours of just doing the letters of the alphabet is smooth with no thought. I feel a need for some Elmer time and suggestions. If I set the learning speed to 10 WPM I am not doing bad, at 15 wpm I can't seem to get anything sent correctly. Well that is all fine and dandy but for me it just plain does not work. Then start by spending time with just doing the letters of the alphabet. So based on what I read you are suppose to set the gap to about the thickness of a piece of 20lb paper.
